This weekend our Chief Operating Officer, Mike Bresnihan, will take on his third London Marathon in aid of Spinal Research.

Mike’s previous marathons were completed in 2017 with a time of 4.40 and 2018 with a time of 4.20. After weeks of training his aim is to beat both times this year – especially for a cause so close to his heart.
‘I’m sure this will be my last marathon attempt so it would be amazing to go out on a high’, said Mike, ‘especially in aid of Spinal Research; without the support and specialism of Spinal surgeons, it is possible that I wouldn’t be walking now, let alone running!’
In 2005, Mike suffered a severe back injury that left him bed ridden. If it wasn’t for the expertise and dedication of a specialist spinal team, all supported by the work conducted by Spinal Research, it’s likely that the injury would have been life changing.
‘I consider myself very lucky’, Mike continued, ’after lots of physio, core strengthening and more recently, focus on healthy living and training, I think I’m probably the fittest I’ve ever been – it is not lost on me that this isn’t the same outcome for many others who have suffered similar injuries’.
‘I’m passionate about raising awareness for the incredible work Spinal Research does, which isn’t possible without the generosity of people that donate whatever they can to their cause.’
Spinal Research is the UK’s leading charity funding medical research around the world to develop effective treatments for paralysis caused by spinal cord injury. More than 50,000 people in the UK and Ireland are living with paralysis caused by spinal cord injury – the work Spinal Research does is aimed to prevent this devastating figure in the future.
As well as Spinal Research, Mike is also running in honour of his youngest son, Daniel. The entire Masuri team wishes Mike and everyone competing in this weekend’s London Marathon the very best of luck!
